Lorentz Friebert / Fribert from Grätz, Grodzisk Wielkopolski

07 maja 2024, 07:32

Hello,

My name is Johnny Fribert and I am from Denmark, and I am looking
for more information about an ancestor from Poland.

Here is what I know.

His name was Lorenz Friebert / Fribert.

He was born in Grätz / Grätzen (german name) - Grodzisk Wielkopolski - near
Posen (Poznan). He was born around the year 1600.

My theory is that he at some point in time travelled to Rostock and met his
wife Agnete (possibly born in Rostick in 1600). They then went to Hadersleben / Haderslev
in the south of Denmark (Jutland).

He was a "schneider" (tailor) in Hadersleben and I have information on all his children born there.

But I lack information about his time in Poland, and more precise information about
birth, parents and his family there in Grodzisk Wielkopolski.

Some of this is documented in an old book called:

"Bürgerbuch der Stadt Hadersleben bis zum Jahre 1864 - 1. Teil", page 213. Person number 43.
This book is in german gothic written language.

He is person number 43, and he is registrered as a citizen of Haderslev / Hadersleben from
June 16, 1634: Friebert, Lorentz aus Grätzen.

Some seems to mean that he died in 1658 in Haderslev / Hadersleben. This may be correct, but
I am not sure. I have not found any church records from there, where he is mentioned.

Note - this is my first attempt to access polish genealogy, so I hope you can guide me
in a good direction (persons/links/documentation) to find more information about my ancestor from Poland

Thanks
Johnny Fribert

Am I totally wrong in postning here? Maybe there is a another site for genealogy for Grodzisk Wielkopolski / Grätz
around year 1600 (plus/minus 35 years or so)? As mentioned, this is my first attempt in polish genealogy,
so I do not really know how to proceed.

Thanks
Johnny Fribert

Thank You!

Good Link.

It seems that the name "Lorentz" is not common in Poland, so I may have to work with the idea
that his original name was "Laurentius", which seems to be a common name in Poland at the time. Maybe he changed
his name to Lorentz, when he signed in as a citizen and tailor in Hadersleben. Just my initial thoughts. The surname - Friebert / Fribert
also is not common in Poland at the time, so it seems. So that leads med to another theory that this was the surname
of is wife Agnethe (I think she is from Rostock, but do not have proof yet). Yes, this is a troublesome quest :-)

There was a Laurentius Kaczka from 1601 with parents: Jacobus and Anna. Interesting, as one of 'Lorents' sons was called Jacobus Fribertus (born in Hadersleben in 1639).

Thanks
Johnny Fribert
